The constitution of ayurveda is governed by dominant of five elements

  1. Earth (Pruthavi)
  2. Water (Jal)
  3. Fire (Tej)
  4. Air (Vayu)
  5. Space (Akash)

They are called fundamental elements of our body.
The base of Ayurvedic treatment depends on Tridosa Theory.

  1. Vata
  2. Pitta
  3. Kapha

They carry out metabolism of body. As long as they remain in normal stage and in mutual harmony the body continues to be healthy. When some disorder in them that lead to diseases. An Ayurvedic treatment consists in restoring harmony among them.

VATA (SPACE AND AIR):-THE MOTIVE FACTOR

As to its function ayurveda states that all types of sensation, motion-voluntary or involuntary such as circulation, respiratory, electrical waves of the heart and brain, secretary and excretory movements, such functions the brain as thinking, memory,intelligence,speech,sleep,courage,etc are based on the proper working of the VATA.

There are 80 kinds of possible disturbance due to vata aggravations. High vata is indicated by a desire for warm food warm environment and warm clothing. Physical symptoms are constipation, lack of energy, loss of sleep, fatigue, and abdominal distention with flatulence. Psychological symptoms are fear, anxiety, confusion, and aimless talking. Ailments such as body pain, stiffness, shivering etc are some of the disturbance caused when the equilibrium of vata dosa is disturbed

 

PITTA (FIRE):-THE CONSUMING FACTER

Keeps the body warm, governs mainly enzymes and hormones, it is responsible for digestion, pigmentation, hunger, thirst, sight, mental qualities as that of cheerfulness, bravery etc. are based on the proper working of the PITTA.

There are 40 kinds of possible disturbance due to pitta aggravation. High pitta is indicated by a desire for cool foods, cool environment and cool clothing. Physical symptoms are excessive hunger and thirst, burning sensations, hyper sensibility, and fever psychological symptoms are anger, tension, and loss of sleep, short temper etc. Ailments such as Heart burning, burning sensation in skin, bad smelling in body, more perspiration, swelling, infection redness etc are some of the disturbance caused when the equilibrium of pitta dosa is disturbed

 

KAPHA (WATER AND EARTH):-THE GROWTH FACTER

Every tissues of the body is growing and renewing itself. Cells secrete chemicals from their bodies and form surrounding ground in which they lie. This process of controlled growth continues as long as the tissue last. Besides this the tissues repairs itself whenever it is injured. It manages to defend itself by producing such defensive substances as antibodies, lysozymes, etc. are based on the proper working of the KAPHA.

There are 20 kinds of possible disturbance due to the kapha aggravation. High kapha is indicated by heaviness in body, loss of appetite, excessive perspiration, cooling of body. Physical symptoms nausea, heaviness in stomach, indigestion. Psychological symptoms are drowsiness, excessive sleep, lethargy, lack of concentration, depression, etc. Ailments such as mucus secretion,congetion,couphing, sweet test of mouth ,diabetes, joint swelling, obesity etc are some of the disturbance caused when the equilibrium of kapha dosa is disturbed.
